Former NBA Superstar Sends Clear Message on LeBron James Future with Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is nearing a return to the court and starting his 23rd season in the NBA.

The King has one of the most decorated resumes that the game of basketball has ever seen, but former NBA superstar and Hall of Famer Paul Pierce recently spoke on what he believes the Lakers should do with James on the KG Certified Podcast with fellow Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

"If I’m the GM, I'd trade LeBron James,” Pierce said. “We already seen what it looked like last year. We got swept… If they add some other little pieces, then they got a shot cuz they get more."

The Lakers have been off to a hot start this season, going 8-3 without James and winning six of their last seven. They have been led by superstar Luka Doncic and his 37.1 points per game thus far (through seven starts), and Austin Reaves’ emergence of 30.3 points and nine assists per game.

Trading a player such as James would be difficult for a number of reasons, but mainly because it will be hard to value him in a trade.

Although he has been a staple in the league for over two decades, there has seemingly been more chatter regarding this season being his last in the NBA. James will also be 41 years old at the end of December, and despite his talent and legacy, the question now shifts to how many teams would risk parting ways with assets if it really does end up being his final season.

The King is close to a return to the court as his sciatica has been the reason that he has yet to debut, but as he nears a practice with the G League affiliate South Bay Lakers, only then will fans have a clearer picture of when they can see him back on the hardwood.
