The wife of West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has hit out at an abusive fan on social media after the club’s brilliant week of back-to-back wins.
It has been a turbulent couple of years for Alphonse Areola at West Ham.
The 6ft 5in star was a revelation when he signed for the Hammers in an initial season-long loan from PSG.
Areola’s unbelievable save in the last 16 Europa League clash with Sevilla that season was seen by many as the moment that clinched West Ham wanting to sign him permanently.
A £10m deal was done with the Ligue 1 giants and Areola went on to help the Hammers lift their only major trophy of the last 45 years with a key role in the Europa Conference League triumph.
Since becoming West Ham’s number one, though, things have not always been plain sailing for the Frenchman.
Areola goes from defending West Ham’s goal to defending his wife
Always capable of simply stunning save of the month contenders, Areola’s basics have sometimes let him down.
That was on show again in the win over Burnley when Areola spilled a shot which led to Burnley’s late second.

Those inconsistencies in the former Real Madrid star’s game has seen him in and out of the team under a succession of managers.
Graham Potter was so convinced Areola was no longer up to being West Ham’s number one he wasted £20m of the club’s precious summer budget on Mads Hermansen.

Areola has won his place back after Hermansen’s horror start to life in east London.
Former top level goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santo clearly rates him as his first choice too having installed him as number one since his arrival.
Areola has been in decent form overall since.
The Hammers ace has been focused on trying to defend his goal amid the difficulties at West Ham over the last two years.
But what Areola probably didn’t bank on was feeling like he has to defend his wife from one of his own fans after a week in which he helped the team to back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Burnley.
Thankfully it seems Marrion Areola is more than capable of defending herself.
The wife of West Ham star Areola has hit out at an abusive fan on social media after the win over the Clarets.
West Ham posted a picture of Tomas Soucek celebrating his goal against Burnley along with the caption: “Making an impact from the bench.”
Marrion Areola responded saying: “Bravo,” along with a flame emoji.

She was then subjected to a bizarre and rude four-letter word in a message from a West Ham account online before issuing a strong response, putting the so-called supporter in their place.
And Areola re-posted the message, his wife’s response and had his own blast for the supporter in question too.
In response to being called a derogatory name by the supposed Hammers fan account West Ham Latest, Marrion Areola said: “By the way, the next home game, try to come and tell me in front of my face and we will see.”
Areola: ‘I guess he’ll never insult a woman for no reason again’
As other West Ham fans rounded on the supporter for the comment, Marrion Areola added: “I think from now on he will think twice before insulting any women! Feel sorry for his wife (if indeed he has one).”
Alphonse then re-posted screenshots of the exchange on his Instagram Stories, saying: “I guess he’ll never insult a woman for no reason again!” along with eyes and sickening emojis.
Every fanbase has a section of fans who let the side down from time-to-time and West Ham are no different.
The supporter owes Alphonse and Marrion a big apology especially given the huge progress being made by Nuno in making the Hammers a family again.
