A key Phoenix Suns standout has received some troubling news after suffering a fresh injury.
Per Shams Charania of ESPN, new Phoenix shooting guard Jalen Green has suffered a right hamstring strain and will be reassessed in the next four-to-six weeks. That does not, necessarily, mean the former No. 2 draft pick will be back on the floor in four-to-six weeks.
Phoenix acquired Green, All-Defensive Team small forward Dillon Brooks, the rights to the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (used on Duke center Khaman Maluach), and five future second-round draft picks from the Houston Rockets as part of a seven-team exchange that shipped 15-time All-Star forward Kevin Durant to Houston. The Suns also stretched and waived former All-Star guard Bradley Beal and traded for centers Mark Williams and Nick Richards to reshape their frontcourt.
The 6-foot-4 swingman has missed most of the Suns’ season so far, already. In his two healthy contests, Green averaged 15.5 points on .478/.429/.600 shooting splits, 2.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per.
Surprisingly, this revamped young Phoenix team has gotten off to a strong start, even in the competitive Western Conference. The Suns have gone 6-5 so far, even while missing one of their better scorers for much of the year. Four-time All-Star guard Devin Booker has been fully unleashed as the unquestioned fulcrum of Phoenix’s offense without Durant or Beal. The 29-year-old has been averaging 28.4 points with an efficient slash line of .507/.397/.877, 6.8 dimes and 4.3 boards a game.
On Monday night, a shorthanded Suns squad decimated the lowly New Orleans Pelicans, 121-98, behind a 40-point outburst from normal reserve guard Grayson Allen. The Duke product - who’ll likely be leaned upon more now as Green recovers - connected on 12-of-17 shooting from the field (10-of-15 from distance) and 8-of-10 shooting from the foul line, while also chipping in four assists and three steals in just 27:31.
