Hibs midfielder backs Bournemouth's £20m man to be Scotland mainstay

Barlaser, who is currently on a season-long loan at Easter Road from Middlesbrough, played 15 times with the former Celtic winger at the Riverside last season and was impressed by what he saw from the then teenager.

Gannon-Doak scored three goals and provided seven assists in 24 appearances for Boro on loan from Liverpool, prompting Hibs' Black Knight sister club Bournemouth to snap him up for an initial fee of £20 million this summer.

Since making his debut, the 20-year-old wideman has played ten times for Scotland – and Barlaser is convinced he will add several caps to his collection throughout his career.

“Yeah, it was easy playing with him, just give him the ball! He was rapid, wasn't he? I gave him the ball to feet or played him into space, and he did the rest, so yeah, he was really good," the midfielder explained.

“I think with youngsters like that, they're just so confident and with his pace, he's one of the fastest people I've played with. So he can use his pace very well.

"I think the move to Bournemouth suits him, the way that he plays. Hopefully, he can do very well."

Gannon-Doak, who left Celtic for Liverpool in 2022, has so far played five times for the Cherries, registering one assist in a 3-1 victory over Fulham.

He has had injury problems in recent seasons, with a hamstring injury sidelining him for 19 Boro matches and a meniscus tear ruling him out for nearly 200 days and robbing him of the chance to represent Scotland at Euro 2024.

"He can definitely be a Scotland mainstay – if he stays fit," Barlaser continued. "He had quite a bad muscle injury when he was at Middlesbrough, I think.

“You know, people who are that fast tend to have more injuries like that. But if he stays fit, I think he could do very well."
