Former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown was extradited to the United States and taken into custody last week with an active warrant out for his arrest on one count of attempted murder. This stemmed from an incident at an Adin Ross boxing event in May. Now he is pleading not guilty, according to ESPN.
Brown was initially taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey. He was later transferred to Miami, where he will endure the court process. According to ESPN, Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, filed a written not-guilty plea on behalf of his client. It’s possible that Brown’s bond hearing could be as early as Wednesday morning.
According to the arrest warrant filed in June, obtained by TMZ Sports, Brown was in an altercation outside of an Adin Ross boxing event. He allegedly took a firearm from a security guard’s holster and fired at the individual he was engaged in an altercation with. Brown was taken into custody at the event, but was later released. After an investigation, police issued a warrant for one count of attempted murder.
Brown quickly took to social media after the altercation took place to maintain his innocence. Brown also then posted videos of himself abroad in Dubai while he was wanted by the authorities.
A second-degree attempted murder charge carries a possible 15-year maximum sentencing in Florida. A $10,000 fine may result if he is convicted.
Unfortunately, this is not his first brush with the law. His previous issues include alleged battery of a truck driver, domestic violence charges, and child support payment issues. It’s a sad chapter in the book of a former NFL superstar, one who was beloved in the city of Pittsburgh.
There will likely be several more updates coming in this court case, especially if he maintains his innocence and fights this charge the entire way through. This will continue to be a developing story.
