Romano noted that a move could happen in the summer of 2026 if the defender opts not to extend his deal with Bayern Munich, which would open the door for a free transfer.

“I hope so,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (h/tParis Fans) when talking about whether he intends to have his future settled by the World Cup. “My agent is handling it. We’ll make the right decision. I’m getting good advice.I’m focused on my season, on my club and national team goals. My mind isn’t on that right now.”

“I’ve always said I feel good at Bayern,” Upamecano added. “I have a great coach. I get along well with my teammates… I’m under contract with Bayern. I have goals. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
