The Pittsburgh Steelers have released an updated depth chart ahead of Week 11’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Steelers-Week-11-Depth-Chart
Last week’s update was the most significant of the year, with several changes in the secondary. This week is mostly back to the status quo, with some minor updates to replace players who are no longer on the roster with ones that were recently added.
DT Brodric Martin-Rhodes was added to the back of the nose tackle depth chart. The Steelers reportedly attempted to trade for defensive line help at the deadline but settled on signing Martin-Rhodes, a player from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, when trade plans fell through. He should help provide the depth lost when Daniel Ekuale got injured, though the Steelers played rookie Yahya Black as nose tackle for six snaps on Sunday with great success.
In the secondary, FS Juan Thornhill was released while rookie S Sebastian Castro was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tomlin said Thornhill’s play wasn’t up to snuff, but that change was more about the opportunity to get Castro back in the fold. He was initially with the team as an undrafted free agent, but was poached off the practice squad by the Buccaneers.
Castro slotted into the backup FS role behind Ramsey on the depth chart.
Even when Jalen Ramsey had to play corner due to injuries in the secondary briefly, it was Chuck Clark who was filling in at safety rather than Thornhill. He had obviously fallen into Tomlin’s doghouse.
The punt return depth chart never changed to begin with, but Ke’Shawn Williams may no longer get those opportunities after a costly mistake in Sunday’s game. His muffed punt opens the door for Austin to return to his punt return duties, as it’s listed on the depth chart.
RB Trey Sermon was also added to the list at the back of the RB depth chart.
For once, the Steelers are actually at 53 players on the active roster. They may have more roster shuffling upcoming with decisions due on QB Will Howard and CB Cory Trice Jr. during their 21-day practice windows to return from IR.
