The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with GM Nico Harrison on Tuesday. This was a long time coming; it should likely have happened when he suggested trading Luka Doncic. However, just nine months and immense fan outrage later, Harrison is gone.
For owner Patrick Dumont, the decision was almost taken out of his hands. Fans were belligerent at games, chanting ‘Fire Nico’ during their own team’s free throws. This phenomenon also occurred in Monday’s loss against the Milwaukee Bucks. And NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t even know what was going on.

“That’s what they were saying? I couldn’t understand what they were saying,” Antetokounmpo told reporters. “No. No, I don’t think so, this is my first time,” Giannis added when asked if he’s seen it happen before.
This is an interesting clarification from the Greek Freak. It’s not unexpected, though, as a video of him seemingly enjoying the chants did go viral. However, it is hard to believe that Antetokounmpo didn’t realize what was going on.

Even if Giannis didn’t understand, Dumont got the message loud and clear. After months of fans demanding it, Harrison has been released from the organization. Cooper Flagg provides hope for the future, and it might be time for everyone involved to move on.
