Cooper Flagg has been in the NBA for just 11 games, but has already experienced a lot. The Dallas Mavericks drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick, but he’s had a rough start. Flagg has largely struggled, playing out of position and during a period of turmoil for the franchise.
The ‘Fire Nico’ chants were prolific through the Mavs’ 3-8 start to the year. Cooper’s mom, Kelly, shared a post by a fan on X claiming that Harrison needed to be fired for the team to move on. Harrison was fired on Tuesday, which has led to her clarifying her stance.

Retweet wasn’t about firing Nico. It was about the fact that the fans were chanting during our free throws. Our guys had nothing to do with what went down.
It’s done now so we all need to move on. Hopefully better days ahead. https://t.co/drbeIW0r5q

“Retweet wasn’t about firing Nico,” she wrote in response to another post on X. “It was about the fact that the fans were chanting during our free throws. Our guys had nothing to do with what went down. It’s done now so we all need to move on. Hopefully better days ahead.”
Although it was considered a no-brainer, the Flaggs will always remember Harrison as the GM who drafted their son. His mother likely doesn’t want to be seen as wanting Nico to lose his job.

She is right about one thing. The die is cast, and the move has been made. Nico Harrison is out, and his short-term vision is likely gone with him. Cooper is the future in Dallas, and his mother surely hopes that the next GM chooses to focus on him and maximize his talent.
