The return of Christian Watson from a long absence due to an Achilles injury he suffered late in the 2024 NFL season has been a welcome development for the Green Bay Packers. With tight end Tucker Kraft going down with a season-ending injury, Watson’s role downfield for Green Bay’s passing attack has become more highlighted.
But during one play in the first half of Monday night’s game between the Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field, the former North Dakota State Bison star wideout turned heads when he failed to secure a long pass on a third-and-20 situation from quarterback Jordan Love. Defended by Eagles defensive back Quinyon Mitchell, Watson ended up on the ground as the ball bounced off his helmet.

A video of Watson’s failed catch attempt made rounds on social media with “Looking back…should Watson have caught this?” as a caption.
Watson apparently saw that post on X, formerly Twitter, a he later responded to it.
“Yes,” Watson wrote in a repost of the clip.

If Watson caught that pass, it probably would have changed the complexion of the game. Green Bay and Philadelphia went scoreless in the first two periods. The Eagles struck first with a field goal in the third quarter, while the Packers did not score until the fourth quarter, as they suffered a 10-7 loss to the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Watson finished the contest with 45 receiving yards on two catches and four targets.
