The Celtics lost a heartbreaker to the Sixers on Tuesday night with a last chance putback by Neemias Queta failing to connect in a 102-100 loss.
Jaylen Brown helped put the Celtics in position to win in the second half, making him Tuesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
Brown scored 17 of his team-high 24 points after intermission including 14 in a dominant third quarter as the Celtics clawed back from a double-digit deficit to take command with a 36-20 edge in the frame.
However, Brown came up short on the defensive end late in this one as he failed to box out Kelly Oubre Jr. on the eventual game-winning putback by the 76ers with seven seconds remaining.
The miscue put a damper on a strong all around night for Boston’s All-Star. Brown added six rebounds and five assists in the setback and also got to the free throw line eight times. He went 8-of-18 from the field and 1-of-3 from 3-point range while facing a healthy diet of double teams from the Sixers for much of the night.
Ultimately, it was enough for Boston as the visitors blew a six-point fourth quarter lead and dropped to 1-2 on the season to the 76ers through 12 games.
Brown and the Celtics will now look to bounce back at TD Garden on Wednesday night when they host the Memphis Grizzlies.
