The Albion head coach has used his versatile Paraguay international in place of the injured Kaoru Mitoma in the last two Premier League games.
But he has not been a like-for-like replacement, playing further infield than the Japan winger.
Gomez used that position as a platform for two penalty-box finishes in the win over Leeds.
He was also busy in the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.
Hurzeler said: “He played this position in his previous club Inter Miami, so he feels quite comfortable playing there, because I think it alsofits him.
“He can come into the middle quite a lot, he can stay as a winger, he can attack the opponents' box, he can get into positions where he can score goals, and I think that suits him, and on top of that he's also very disciplined at checking back.
“So it's not only about offensive actions, I think also how he defended against Leeds United was impressive.
“He tracked the opponent quite well, he had a lot of good recovery runs, he defended his own box well, so overall I think it's a position that fits him and he sees it the same way.”
Gomez is currently with his national team in the USA as part of their preparation for the World Cup.
They play the USA in Chester, Pennsylvania, and then Mexico in San Antonio, a game which ends at about 2.30am next Wednesday our time.
He will then rush back ready for Albion’s Premier League return at home to Brentford a week on Saturday (3pm).
