Dayot Upamecano has promised to make the 'right decision' as he addressed the ongoing uncertainty over his Bayern Munich future. The centre-back's current deal expires at the end of the campaign, meaning that he could leave the German giants on a free transfer this summer.

Upamecano has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months after the Reds missed out on Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window. And speaking last week, Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl claimed the defender's agent is already fielding calls from interested parties.

He said: "It's normal if other clubs are calling his agents, it's part of the game. I've already said that we want to do our best and get new contract done. We are on it."

Upamecano is currently away on international duty with France, and addressing the speculation around his Bayern future, he told L’Equipe: “My agent is taking care of it.

“We will make the right decision. I am receiving good advice. I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. I don't have the headspace for it.”

It was claimed less than 24 hours after Liverpool’sChampions League win over Real Madrid at Anfield last week that the Spanish giants had reached a verbal agreement to sign the defender in the summer.

While the Reds missed out on Guehi during the summer transfer window after a £35million move to Anfieldcollapsed on deadline day when Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish, pulled the plug on the deal.

Parish revealed last month that Palace's maiden season in Europe was the reason behind what he did.

“It's a difficult decision," he said. "It's as simple as that these things are never black and white.

“I decided in the end that, based on the advice that I got and with what I think, that we would have a better season if we kept Marc.

“We don't guess about these things. If you look at it rationally, if you look at what is worth the place in the Premier League, the fact that we're in the Conference League for the first time in our history, this is a fairly unusual set of circumstances in which to keep a player.

“If we were fighting between the difference of 10th and 14th, if that was going to be the difference between keeping Marc and letting Marc go, then probably we would have said: 'Right, we should take the money'."
