Liverpool have a handful of players out of contract this summer and Andy Robertson has addressed his future head on
Andy Robertson insists he remains relaxed about his contract situation at Anfield as he prepares to enter the final six months of his deal with Liverpool.
The Scotland captain joined the Reds from Hull City in 2017 for £8m, in what has proven to be an incredible piece of business from the Anfield outfit. Robertson has played 354 times for Liverpool, with 12 goals and 68 assists to his name.
He has played a key role in the club’s success in recent years with two Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph among several other pieces of silverware. However, he is out of contract with Liverpool in the summer.
Andy Robertson addresses Liverpool contract situation
"I think last season everyone was bored of talking about the three lads [Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold], but for me the relationship between me and the club has been a wonderful one," Robertson said.
"They've done everything for me in terms of me and my family. I think I've not been too bad for them in terms of signing from Hull for £8 million and what I've done. Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors and I'm relaxed about the whole situation. If it is my last year, then it's my last year. If it's not, then so be it."
Asked if there’d been talks over a new deal, he said: "I think obviously I had a bit of a stressful summer in terms of decisions and things like that. And I've said to myself to just try and enjoy the next few months and then obviously it will start probably taking over my life. I've got no doubt about that.
"That's what happens when you go into your last six months. I'm just trying to focus on football now. Delighted to be back on the pitch, delighted to be back playing the last few games. That's important and let's see what happens. But I'm relaxed about the whole thing and the club has been amazing for me."
Andy Robertson linked with Celtic as report claims deal almost done
Robertson is close to finalising an agreement to join Celtic on a free transfer next summer, according to a report. The Scotland international hails from Glasgow and started his career in the Celtic academy. He never made a professional appearance for the 55-time champions of Scotland, leaving them for Queen’s Park. He joined Dundee United in 2013 before moving to England with Hull City in 2014.
According to Fichajes, Robertson has been in talks with Celtic about a possible return. A deal “ is almost finalised as a free transfer this summer, with a pre-contract possible as early as January. The scenario appeals to both the player and the club.”
Celtic have had a rocky start to the 2025-26 campaign with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers resigning as manager amid a public fallout with the club’s board. Signing Robertson on a free transfer could go a long way to appeasing the club’s fans who have also expressed discontent with transfer business in recent windows.
TeamTALK reported last week that Robertson would be open to a pre-contract agreement with Celtic, with the possibility appearing to have become more likely in recent days.
