Comparisons are being drawn between Leeds United’s current position and the Leeds side Jesse Marsch managed back in 2022-23, and now Marsch has shared what it was like to manage Leeds.
On this day, 12 November in 2022, Leeds suffered a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham after wins over Liverpool and Bournemouth. The Whites were sitting in 14th place in the Premier League under Jesse Marsch.
Leeds had won 15 points from 14 games, a similar-ish tally to Daniel Farke’s Leeds this season, who have 11 points from 11 games. Marsch enjoyed a second wind after an excellent start, around this time.
Farke is yet to enjoy a second wind after a good start that included wins against Everton and Wolves. Marsch has been speaking ahead of Canada’s November fixtures, and next summer’s 2026 World Cup.

Jesse Marsch shares what it was like to manage at Elland Road
These days, Marsch is not liked among Leeds supporters. Ultimately, it was the American who was to blame for Leeds’ relegation, even if he was only sacked in February. His tactics, his recruitment, poor.
Speaking to Canadian outlet TSN on YouTube, Marsch was asked to pick his five most-hostile stadiums and he picked Elland Road as fifth. The former Leeds manager described it as an “incredible” place.
“No.5, I was the coach at Leeds United. Elland Road, Elland Road is an incredible place to play and [the fans] make it very, very difficult [for opposing teams],” Marsch said about Elland Road and the Leeds fans.

Since leaving Leeds in February 2023, Marsch has taken over as Canada’s National Team manager. He has since taken charge of 25 games for Canada, winning 11 times and only losing five matches in charge.
A Canada side that includes Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanan and Leeds summer target Promise David will be seen as dark horses next summer at the World Cup, if Marsch can get it right.

Marsch picked Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion and the ‘Yellow Wall’ in fourth, while Anfield was third. Of course, Marsch ended Liverpool’s unbeaten run at Anfield in November 2022 with a 2-1 Leeds victory.
Club America’s atmosphere in Mexico was voted second most-hostile by Marsch, before the former Leipzig and Salzburg manager picked Boca Juniors’ La Bombonera first, without actually managing there.
