“It’s great” – Derby County player pleased with surprise Brentford links

Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström was linked to Brentford in the summer.

Brentford then signed Caoimhín Kelleher from Liverpool in June and he’s been their No.1 this season.

In August, claims from the UK reported Brentford wanted to sign the Derby County player as a back-up for Kelleher. It was also said Keith Andrews’ side were willing to offer £3.5m to the Championship club.

He’s now spoken to Fotbollskanalen and the majority of the interview is about Derby County.

Towards the end, the Swedish outlet mentioned Brentford’s reported interest from last summer. The Derby County player explained the whole thing came as a surprise.

Jacob Widell Zetterström doesn’t know whether the Premier League club had a genuine interest in him.

“It was a rumour that surprised me quite a bit. I hadn’t heard anything about it before, but if it’s true, it’s great to hear something like that. At the same time, I came to Derby a year ago and have only been focused on doing my job there,” he said.

The goalkeeper spent his entire playing career in Sweden until Derby County signed him from Djurgårdens IF in August 2024. He’s been the first choice for the English club since.

Last season, the Swede kept 11 clean sheets and conceded 54 goals from 46 matches. He has three clean sheets and has conceded 19 goals in 15 Championship games this season.
