This is where Burnley stand in the all-time Premier League table after return to top flight

Matt Scrafton's verdict on Burnley's 3-2 defeat to West Ham

Burnley have enjoyed a solid start to the Premier League season, but where do they stand in the all-time table?

Burnley have made a solid start to life back in the Premier League as they seek to avoid relegation, but historically, that’s not something they’ve often been able to do.

Prior to this occasion, the Clarets were promoted to the top-flight four times and on three occasions, they went straight back down. The six-season spell in the Premier League between 2016 and 2022 is the only outlier, but was a time when Burnley finished in the top half twice and even qualified for the Europa League. That got us thinking about where Burnley stand in the all-time Premier League table, given the mixed fortunes they’ve had in the competition since its inception in 1992.

Burnley closing in on Premier League all-time top 30

Burnley place surprisingly well in the all-time Premier League table, sitting 31st, just above Wigan Athletic and below Charlton Athletic. One more win will see them overtake the latter and move into the top 30, while the likes of Wimbledon and Sheffield Wednesday are appearing on the horizon.

The Clarets still have a long way to go if they’re to catch East Lancashire rivals, Blackburn, though, with Rovers 12th on 970 points, compared to Burnley’s 359 points. That owes in no small part to the spell between 1992 and 1998, when they finished in the top seven five times, including winning the title in 1994/95 having finished second the year prior.
