NFL: Takeaways from Week 10 in the AFC South

Each week of the 2025 NFL season, I’ll take a look at all of the AFC South teams. I’ll give you a couple of takeaways from their latest games. Here’s what stood out from each franchise following Week 10.

In the Colts first seven games, Jones was only sacked six times. He was sacked seven times on Sunday. In his last three games, his sacks have gone up weekly, with three in Week 8, five in Week 9, before Week 10’s seven sacks. Jones only had three interceptions in his first eight games, but he has thrown four in his last two. Completing the trifecta of a meltdown, Jones has fumbled six times in his last two games, losing three of those, after not losing any fumbles in his first eight games.

Jonathan Taylor is the leader in the MVP race

Taylor was already among the frontrunners for the 2025 MVP. Following the latest game in which his quarterback has continued his meltdown, Taylor jumped to the top of the mountain by singlehandedly taking the team on his back for yet another three-touchdown performance. He’s now had three touchdowns in half of the 10 games that he’s played this season. He’s the engine not only of the offense but of the entire team.

The beginning of the end of Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence was only sacked three times in Jacksonville’s first four games of the season. In his last four games, he’s been sacked 5+ times in three of those, including back-to-back games with seven sacks. He’s had four games this year in which he didn’t complete 58% of his passes, including both matchups with the Houston Texans, in which he combined for one touchdown and three interceptions. The back-breaking factor on Lawrence’s dissension came with him not being able to do anything positive for his team as he watched a third-round, backup QB from the same draft class in which Lawrence went first overall, lead a 26-0 outscoring of his team.

Jaguars defense from beginning of year has disappeared

Jacksonville’s defense was averaging almost three turnovers a game over their first five games of the season and led the team to a 4-1 record. Against Houston’s backup QB and three replacements on the offensive line, Jacksonville only managed two sacks and one turnover. After their team was up 29-10, the Jags defense allowed Houston’s offense to score 20 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, by giving up three drives of over 50+ yards. It was a historic meltdown and one that could tank their season, as Jacksonville has lost three of their last four games.

Texans:

Davis Mills saves the season for Houston

Mills threw for 292 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a touchdown on the ground with 20 rushing yards. Mills did his best work late, with Houston having possession for almost 11 minutes in the 4th quarter. The Texans went 5 for 6 on third down conversions and 1 for 1 on fourth downs in the 4th quarter. Houston had struggled on third downs this year as well as in the goal-to-go and red zone this season. Mills led the Texans to 10 of 15 on third downs and helped to answer their woes in the red zone and goal-to-go situations. The key third-down passes, as well as the rushing touchdown for Mills on 3rd and goal from the 14-yard line with 37 seconds left in the game to take the lead, showed Mills may be ready for another shot at starting for an NFL team in 2026.

Danielle Hunter steps up in the comeback win

Hunter looked like a talented, hungry NFL veteran who wasn’t willing to let a season slip away from him. He was second on the team with 7 tackles, combined with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. In the midst of the Texans comeback, Hunter stepped up to shut down the run and passing attack to kill drives and get the ball back into his offense’s hands.

Titans:

Have youth gel over the 2nd half of the season on offense

The Titans were on a bye in Week 10. As they return to the field in Week 11 and throughout the rest of the season, the focus should be to continue to develop Cam Ward as well as their youth at wide receiver in Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike and tight end Gunnar Helm. Tennessee selected the entire trio of Ayomanor, Dike, and Helm in the 4th round of the 2025 NFL draft. They thought highly enough of each to add them to the squad in the first round of the final day of the draft. Each has shown flashes this year, with Dike shining among one of the best return men in the entire NFL.

Defense resembles a split-squad from MLB Spring Trainings

The injuries and trades from the Titans defense have really thinned out what the Titans have to trot out for the rest of the season. They’ve had injuries to L’Jarius Sneed, Jeffery Simmons, Arden Key, and more, combined with the trades of Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Roger McCreary, and Dre’Mont Jones on the defensive side of the ball. The unit doesn’t even look like an NFL roster at this point, but has the talent resemblance of an MLB roster for a split-squad game with fill-ins all over the starting lineup.
