Report: Chelsea pleased with Tyrique George but face two problems if they want to keep him

Chelsea youngster Tyrique George has really bounced back following a disappointing summer.

It was reported that George was left feeling quite sad after his move to Chelsea’s west London rivals Fulham collapsed.

However, the young forward has put that behind him and has managed to make an impact for the Blues this season.

He has scored goals in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup, helping out Enzo Maresca’s side up front during the absence of Liam Delap.

George did not sulk or throw his toys out of the pram after failing to secure a transfer to Fulham.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are pleased with the 19-year-old, but they may struggle to keep hold of him in January if that is their plan.

The same outlet claims that George wants to play regularly, while it is also thought that he is attracting plenty of interest right now. Those two things could prevent the Club World Cup winners from retaining their academy product.

Crystal Palace are said to be keen on George, so Selhurst Park could be one potential destination for the England Under-21 international.

With Delap and Joao Pedro competing up front and Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens battling for a spot on the left, Maresca cannot guarantee George minutes.

Tyrique George has put away difficult chances this season

Looking at some of his goals, it is no surprise to hear that Chelsea are pleased with George.

This term, George has netted three times in 441 minutes, which is not bad for a teenager. But what is even more impressive is the manner in which he has taken his goals.

The chances George has had have not been simple ones, and you can see that from his xG. For example, he has one goal in the Champions League from an xG of just 0.28.

Champions League 3 152 1 0 0.28 0.72

Carabao Cup 2 146 2 1 1.18 0.82

You can see the logic behind Maresca using the winger as a striker. George is a rough diamond some at Chelsea would probably love to polish up, but it may be difficult to do that with all of the other attacking options at Stamford Bridge.
