And while Tottenham still shuffle along the options in the second phase at Hotspur Way, Sunderland are plotting an audacious move to bring Fermin Lopez to English shores. The Premier League newcomers are said to be ready to table an offer in the region of €80 million for him, per recent report by Fichajes.
We have seen the Black Cats be quite aggressive in the transfer market in the summer window. But the ambitions are running high at the Stadium of Light after their recent draw against Arsenal.
While that price point is eye-catching, they could get a solid player in him, especially if he seamlessly adapts to the pace and physical aspects of the English top tier.
And given the financial pressure at Camp Nou, bids with this capacity bring weight in that boardroom. If Sunderland do bid the aforementioned hefty fee for the 20-year-old, Barcelona will surely give it two thoughts. Maybe a mid-season sale couldn’t be on the cards, but they will surely ask the Black Cats to look in again in the summer.

Tottenham need to act more decisively in the market.
The North Londoners have been looking at a lot of talents in the transfer market. But we have barely seen Tottenham move like many other Premier League sides. Now Sunderland, a club that just got promoted, are building a side that this club would have taken years to do.
We understand there needs to be caution in how the money is spent, but that does not mean you postpone your project and ambitions.
With Sunderland going for someone like Fermin Lopez, they will have to do a lot of convincing, but it shows a sense of intent that we have only momentarily seen from Tottenham in years.
It is not just Fermin; only last window we saw how Tottenham lost a lot of their prime targets to rivals, just starting from Norgaard and Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.
