The Washington Commanders placed former Alabama cornerback Trey Amos on injured reserve on Tuesday, the NFL team announced.
The rookie suffered a fractured fibula during Washington’s 44-22 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and the injury “will knock him out for a while, so he’ll miss some significant time,” Commanders coach Dan Quinn said.
A trip to injured reserve requires a player to miss at least four games. The earliest that Amos could play again is Dec. 20, when Washington plays the Philadelphia Eagles with three games remaining on its regular-season schedule.
Amos has started eight of Washington’s 10 games. He has 32 tackles and six pass breakups.
Amos’ injury follows the loss of the Commanders’ other starting cornerback. Marshon Lattimore went down for the season when he sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 2.

Amos joined Washington in the second round of the NFL Draft on April 25 after playing at three colleges. The cornerback started with three seasons at Louisiana followed by the 2023 campaign at Alabama and concluding at Ole Miss in 2024.
