“I know the lyrics” – Newcastle United player on shock at ‘fantastic’ Magpies chant

Malick Thiaw has settled in quickly since arriving at Newcastle United from AC Milan in August.

The centre-back has played 14 matches so far this season and already established himself in the heart of the Magpies’ defence.

His performances for Newcastle United saw him return to the Germany squad for the first time since October 2023. He’ll be hoping to feature against Luxembourg and Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers this month.

Sky Deutschland sat down for a chat with the 24-year-old to discuss his selection for this international break, his time at the club so far and several other topics.

The defender has quickly become a favourite for Newcastle United fans, and already has a chant. When asked about this, the former Milan player said it’s the first time he’s had a chant dedicated to him.

“I know the lyrics, they’re fantastic. I’ve never had a song like this before in my career. I was surprised when I first heard it,” he said.

“My teammates then told me, without downplaying it, that it’s quite common in England. Even so, it was wonderful for me. I first heard the song at an away game when I was standing in front of the stands. I’ll never forget that moment.”

Eddie Howe has long admired the defender and had tried to get him to Newcastle United on a few occasions before last summer. Earlier today, the Germany international said he decided to join the Magpies after a detailed chat with the manager.
