Opta predicts whether Leeds United will avoid Premier League relegation amid terrible form

The Opta Supercomputer has made its latest prediction for the final Premier League table and whether Leeds United will avoid relegation.

Leeds United head into the final international break of 2025 in a sour mood after they suffered yet another terrible defeat on the road.

Daniel Farke’s side desperately needed a positive result against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest but, despite taking an early lead through Lukas Nmecha, they lost 3-1.

It’s left Leeds on the cusp of the relegation zone, sitting just one point above the drop line after 11 games.

With all that to consider, Opta have made their latest prediction for the Premier League table and it doesn’t look good for Leeds.

Opta Supercomputer’s revised Premier League prediction is grim reading for Leeds United

The Opta Supercomputer collates data from every team’s matches so far in the season and uses that to predict how the rest of the campaign will play out.

After the victory over West Ham, Opta had predicted Leeds would finish 16th and avoid the drop, with Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Wolves all going down.

However, after two defeats on the road to Brighton and Forest, Opta have now revised that prediction significantly.

Instead, Leeds are now expected to finish 19th in the table, picking up just 35 points and returning to the Championship after a single season in the top flight.

Opta believes Leeds have a 52.81% chance of suffering relegation. That’s at least a lot better than Wolves, who are given a 91.05% chance and are predicted to finish last with just 26 points.

Burnley are the third side projected to go down, with West Ham and Forest climbing out of the relegation places and Sunderland finishing comfortably in 14th.

Leeds United could be in serious trouble by 2026

What’s especially worrying for Leeds is that they have had a relatively comfortable start to the season but haven’t been able to take advantage.

Of last year’s top 10, they have faced only Arsenal, Brighton, Bournemouth and Newcastle United so far. They have also already played five plausible relegation rivals in Wolves, Forest, West Ham, Burnley (the four teams below them) and Fulham, the team directly above.

From those fixtures, they have only picked up six points. The games are only getting harder once domestic football returns.

Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are to come in the next four games before a hectic Christmas schedule.

Leeds face Brentford (12th), Crystal Palace (10th) and Sunderland (4th) before they take on Liverpool for the second time in a month, then welcome Manchester United to Elland Road before travelling to Newcastle United.

That is a brutal run of fixtures which could very realistically see Leeds marooned at the bottom of the table. Improvements need to be made by Farke. Quickly.
