The Green Bay Packers sit at 5-3-1 through 10 weeks, though their overall performance has been stronger than the record indicates. Monday’s defeat against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles left them third in the NFC North standings.

The defense has been a consistent force under coordinator Jeff Hafley, surrendering roughly 19 points per game throughout the season. Hafley’s work has not gone unnoticed around the league. His defensive schemes and player development have positioned him as a leading candidate for head coaching vacancies when the offseason arrives.

“The Packers have allowed just 13, 16 and 10 points in their three losses this season,” NFL Insider Jordan Schultz wrote on X. “Any criticism of Micah Parsons or the defense is outlandish. Meanwhile, DC Jeff Hafley will be a major head coaching candidate this offseason.”

Hafley is expected to draw serious interest from multiple organizations seeking new leadership. The 46-year-old coordinator made the jump from Boston College, where he served as head coach, to Green Bay in 2024.

His transition to the NFL level has been seamless, particularly in his handling of linebacker Micah Parsons after the trade that brought him to the Packers. Hafley’s background spans both college and professional football, giving him a diverse foundation that appeals to teams evaluating potential coaches.

His ability to maximize talent and implement effective systems has made him one of the more attractive names in the upcoming hiring cycle. The New York Giants face Green Bay this weekend, but larger decisions await the organization beyond Sunday. After parting ways with head coach Brian Daboll, the Giants will search for new leadership during the offseason.

Early reports suggest the franchise may lean toward an offensive-minded candidate to develop rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Still, the team’s defensive talent could make a coordinator like Hafley an option worth considering.
