Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander just decided to step away from football to focus on his physical and mental recovery after offseason knee surgery. The 28-year-old made this most awkward announcement on Tuesday, just 10 days after the trade deadline.

The former Pro Bowl cornerback never played a snap for the Eagles and didn’t travel to Green Bay for Monday’s game against his old team, the Packers. His absence leaves Philadelphia searching for answers at the cornerback spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell.
Jaire Alexander Abruptly Walks Away from Football
The Eagles acquired him along with a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Ravens in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. GM Howie Roseman was the mastermind behind the trade, who wanted to improve the team’s front seven.
Alexander signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Ravens in June after Green Bay Packers cut him. He appeared in only two games for the Ravens, playing 61 snaps without recording an interception. The Ravens placed him on a healthy scratch list five times before sending him to Philly.

His injury history was really very serious. Since 2021, he has not attended more than seven games in any season. That year, a shoulder injury limited him to only four appearances. Then, in both 2023 and 2024, he participated in only seven games due to his shoulder and knee problems.
Alexander informed the Eagles of his decision Tuesday, a day after their victory over Green Bay on Monday Night Football. He had just come to Philly, but days later, he decided to leave football forever.
In the process, Philly lost their valuable sixth-round pick. Fans are left wondering what happens to that draft capital Howie gave up for Alexander.
Eagles Faithful Erupt Over Draft Pick Fiasco
Eagles fans didn’t hold back on social media after the news broke. The Philly faithful want answers about compensation.
One fan wrote, “Do the eagles get their pick back lol.”
A second fan wrote, “What happens to the trade/draft picks?? Do the ravens still get the pick swap in the trade??”
A third claimed, “Does Philly get some sort of comp considering he did this shit after the trade deadline was over?”
A fourth shared, “Howie just giving picks away for the hell of it.”
The fifth noted, “What happens to the draft pick they traded for him??”
A random X user penned, “This nonsense happens at least once a year, myles jack, zadarius smith, now him. we better be getting our pick back.”
This front office miscalculation stings worse because Alexander’s injury concerns were waving before the deal went down. Philadelphia gambled on a risky player and now paying the hefty price. Meanwhile, Baltimore walks away with better draft capital.
