Giants expected to start Jameis Winston at QB vs. Packers

Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The New York Giants are expected to start Jameis Winston at quarterback in Week 11, while Jaxson Dart remains in the concussion protocol.

Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and The Athletic about the move Wednesday, just two days after the Giants fired coach Brian Daboll.

Russell Wilson, who replaced Dart in the Giants' loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday in Chicago, is expected to be Winston's primary backup in Week 11 against the Packers.

Wilson completed 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards against the Bears. He threw three touchdown passes and three interceptions through six appearances this season. Wilson went 0-3 as the Giants' starter.

Winston, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Giants over the off-season, was listed as their second-string quarterback this preseason, behind Wilson. Dart passed him on the depth chart to start the regular season. The rookie passed Wilson to become the Giants' starter in September.

Winston completed 61.1% of his throws for 2,121 yards, 13 scores and 12 interceptions over 12 appearances last season for the Cleveland Browns. He completed 61.2% of his throws for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions over 105 appearances through the first 10 years of his NFL career.

The Giants, who are led by interim coach Mike Kafka, will host the Green Bay Packers at 1 p.m. EST Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
