Leeds United duo the first to feature in November international break, one wins first cap in a year

The November international break has only just begun and yet, on Wednesday morning, Leeds United had two of their 16 players in action for their countries.

It has been a while since Leeds have been able to say that as many as 16 players have been called up to represent their countries. The official Leeds website named 14 players on international duty this month.

But they did not include out-on-loan duo Isaac Schmidt and Charlie Crew, who are currently in camp with Switzerland and Wales’ U21 side. Noah Okafor and Anton Stach were among the players to miss out.

Big games are coming up for Wales quartet Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James, while Gabriel Gudmundsson will win his first cap under new Sweden manager Graham Potter during the break.

Brenden Aaronson will come up against Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, while there has been a call-up for Jake Howard in Dubai for England’s U17 side. On Wednesday morning, two Leeds youngsters were in action.

Sam Chambers returns to Scotland duty for first time in a year

It has been a difficult few months for Chambers. The winger came into the first team set-up under Daniel Farke last season, making his debut against Plymouth and starting against Millwall in the FA Cup.

But this season, Chambers missed the first few months through injury. Having made his return to action in the last couple of games, Chambers won a Scotland U19 call-up. His last cap came in November 2024.

On Wednesday morning, Chambers started on the bench for Scotland’s U19 side in a European qualifying clash against Latvia away from home. He entered the game on 55 minutes, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Luke Matykiewicz impresses for Northern Ireland’s U19 side

The other Leeds player in action on Wednesday morning was defender Luke Matykiewicz. The blonde-haired ace has been a regular in Gareth McAuley’s Northern Ireland U19 side over the last 12 months.

He is also turning heads at Leeds, too. Matykiewicz was called up to senior training under Farke recently, and on Wednesday morning, the lofty defender played at right-back as Northern Ireland faced Malta.

An impressive 1-0 win, with Larne’s James Simpson scoring the only goal of the game in the first half. A solid display from Matykiewicz, helping his side keep a clean sheet in what was the first of six games.
