CLEVELAND, Ohio — Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to start this Sunday versus the Packers.
The decision comes after rookie starter Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion this past Sunday versus the Bears.
It’s been a turbulent season for New York, who fired head coach Brian Daboll earlier in the week, and named assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka the interim coach.
This comes after the Week 10 loss to the Bears, in which they fell to 2-8 for a third consecutive season.
It’s been a season marked by season-ending injuries to their young star players. From WR Malik Nabers (torn right ACL), to rookie RB Cam Skattebo (dislocated ankle).
In the quarterback room, veteran Russell Wilson was named the starter going into season, but lost that role after an 0-3 start.
Dart started the following seven games and did well, completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three picks.
The rookie also led the Giants to both of their current wins, which included a Week 6 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
But even he has now been evaluated for four concussions.
Winston joined New York in the offseason and named the third-stringer, and has yet to play a single snap this season.
His last time in action came in Week 15 of 2024, when still with Cleveland.
During that season, Winston started seven games after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Winston completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, and earned two of the team’s three wins.
Prior to that, the former No. 1 selection of the 2015 NFL Draft spent five seasons in Tampa Bay and four more in New Orleans.
