Top Sky transfer insider explains Chelsea’s “private” plans for “world class” midfielder

A quiet international break is the perfect time to get stuck into some bigger picture Chelsea talk, and that’s just what Sky Sports’ top dog Kaveh Solhekol has done today.

The transfer specialist has taken a look at Chelsea’s squad and a few storylines going on below the surface. First on his agenda is Moises Caicedo. He writes that the midfielder “is set to be rewarded for his exceptional performances for Chelsea” with a new contract. The terms of this new deal will “reflect his status as a world-class midfielder.” – I.E, Caicedo is about to get a monster wage bump.

The midfielder is under contract until 2033, but will get a pay rise, with “any change in terms done in private.”

It’s all part of the BlueCo philosophy of signing young players on heavily incentivised contracts, then giving them a base salary rise if they really impress.

They can hardly deny Caicedo that honour now that his own manager has called him the best midfielder in the world. The Ecuador star has got better and better since a slow start to life at Chelsea, and is now in his best run of form since arriving.

The fact it happens in private does leave us guessing a little – we heard not long ago that Marc Cucurella was going to have a similar arrangement, yet nothing has been announced, meaning nobody is quite sure if he’s got a new wage or not.

In other news…

With Caicedo holding down the defence, Chelsea are making chances but still need a focal point to take shots and put them away – that’s what the stats are telling us, anyway.

Things are certainly trending in the right direction in terms of creating these chances, with Chelsea’s main attackers all featuring somewhere in the key stats for chance creation.
