Thomas Tuchel informs Everton target he needs to be playing more regular football

Everton are going to be active in the January transfer market and England manager Thomas Tuchel could well provide them with some help.

The German manager has not exactly become a favourite on Merseyside following some of his recent squad selections.

Everton winger Jack Grealish has been snubbed by Tuchel three times already in the opening months of the 2025/26 campaign.

Earlier in the term, Tuchel praised Grealish for his form at Everton in the early stages of the campaign.

However, the 30-year-old has been overlooked ever since, with Grealish’s hopes of making the World Cup squad taking a real beating.

Having disagreed with his team selections up to now, Everton fans may now be pleased to hear Tuchel’s latest comments which may work to David Moyes’ advantage.

Thomas Tuchel urges Everton January target to find more minutes

Everton News understands that Everton will be eyeing another full-back as well as adding more goals in January.

According to Caught Offside, the Toffees are one of a few Premier League clubs considering a swoop for Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Having not selected the 19-year-old for his latest squad, Tuchel has warned the defender that he needs to be playing more regularly ahead of the World Cup.

“Myles was a very good team-mate and played for us in the last camp in the World Cup qualifier in Riga, so was Ruben Loftus-Cheek, so was Morgan Gibbs-White,” Tuchel told the media.

“But I said last time there is a component to it and that is about competition and performance and the door is always open for guys who perform on a high level regularly.

“Myles, Ruben and Morgan got out-performed by O’Reilly, Alex Scott and Jude Bellingham in their positions.

“Myles simply needs more starts, more minutes.”

This comes at a time when Everton are in need of something more from their left-back position, with Adam Aznou failing to compete with Vitaliy Mykolenko.

It is believed Everton hold concerns over Aznou’s physicality following his move from Bayern Munich.

As ambitious as it would be, a swoop for Lewis-Skelly could be huge for Everton.

Mykolenko has admitted he’s open to signing a new Everton contract, but the Ukraine international is not providing enough in attack.

The defender is one of the players who is set to see his contract expire at the end of the term.

And in recent days, Moyes has admitted he wants more from his full-backs, which may be why he replaced Jake O’Brien at the weekend.

Adding Lewis-Skelly to the backline could provide Everton with a real boost on the left side.

However, prising this young talent away from north London in a season where they are gunning for the title would surely require the player to force a move.
