The Boston Celtics suffered another tough-luck loss on Tuesday night, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated them 102-100. However, there were several encouraging developments in this one, with the play of Jordan Walsh being perhaps the most noteworthy of the bunch. The beginning of the 2025-26 campaign has seen head coach Joe Mazzulla experimenting with different lineups to see what he has at his disposal. That has resulted in a bigger role for Walsh, who has shown off his two-way abilities frequently as of late. While his offensive game is still evolving, Walsh has shown himself to be a strong perimeter defender who can also make an impact on the glass. After earning a career-high 29 minutes against the Sixers, thanks in large part to his ability to help slow down Tyrese Maxey, Walsh opened up on his new role with the C’s. “I think it says a lot for the trust that the organization has in me,” Walsh said after the game. “Obviously Joe, also the trust that the guys have in me as well by getting me involved, trusting that if I’m guarding the best player, they want me out there and I’m gonna get a stop. It builds confidence. I feel like every possession, every play and every timeout, it’s like they’re talking to me, I’m talking to them, and we’re just building more and more chemistry. And I think that in the long run, it’s going to be successful that way.” Story continues below advertisement Over his past five games, Walsh is averaging 6.6 points, six rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 48.1% from the field. Walsh has also drastically improved as a shooter from behind the arc, as he’s hitting 46.2% of his threes early in the season. After hitting a clutch three late in the team’s win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday, it’s clear that Walsh has earned the trust of Mazzulla and the rest of the coaching staff. Walsh will look to continue his recent stretch of strong play when the Celtics square off against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
