Ex-Walsall defender takes 'interim charge' of Middlesbrough as Rob Edwards joins Wolves

Edwards, who only joined Boro in the summer, has left Riverside Stadium to [succeed Vitor Pereira as the new head coach of Wolves](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2025/11/12/wolves-confirm-rob-edwards-appointment-with-contract-length-and-assistant-revealed/) on a three-and-a-half year deal.

42-year-old Edwards was stood down for the 2-1 win over Birmingham City last weekend, which Viveash oversaw from the dugout.

"Middlesbrough can confirm that Rob Edwards has now officially resigned from his post as head coach after agreeing a contract with Wolves," a club statement read.

"Rob had signed a three-year contract with ourselves during the summer, but after he made it clear he was keen to join Wolves, we reluctantly agreed a figure of compensation for both himself and one of his first team coaches, Harry Watling.

"Adi Viveash took charge of team affairs last Saturday and will continue to do so during the interim period."

Adi Viveash made 225 appearances for Walsall, achieving promotion to the First Division in 1999.

Edwards made 111 appearances for Wolves as a player and also worked as under-18s, under-23s and first team coach during two separate spells.

He takes over with Wolves sitting rock bottom and eight points adrift of safety in the Premier League, after picking up just two points from their first 11 games.

Viveash made 225 appearances for Walsall in all competitions between 1995 and 2000, scoring 16 goals in total.

He helped the Saddlers achieve promotion to the First Division under Ray Graydon in 1999 and also figured for the likes of Swindon Town, Reading and Kidderminster Harriers.

The 56-year-old spent nine years coaching at Chelsea's academy, before joining up with Mark Robins at Coventry City, where the pair led the Sky Blues to two promotions in three seasons.

Viveash left Coventry after seven years in July 2024 and joined Edwards' backroom staff at Middlesbrough in the summer.
