Ryan Gravenberch’s agent “would love” Real Madrid transfer – but admits “impossible”

Ryan Gravenberch‘s agent has said he “would love for” his client to play for Real Madrid, but he has admitted “now it is impossible.”

While the Reds have won the last two encounters on the pitch with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants are still causing supporters to have sleepless nights over their transfer intentions.

Having taken Trent Alexander-Arnold for just £8.4 million last summer, they could attract Ibrahima Konate on a free next summer and there have also been weak rumours linking Alexis Mac Allister to Madrid.

Gravenberch is the latest name to have been mentioned in connection to Los Blancos, but it isn’t quite time for Reds to worry with his agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, admitting a move would be “impossible” for now.

“When Ryan was 16, Barca called us,” said the agent from Team Raiola (via the Mail).

“They wanted to sign him, but his father and I prioritised his development. He’s good enough for Real Madrid.

“We would love for him to play for them, but Liverpool would ask for a lot of money. I know they’ve had their eye on him but now it’s impossible.”

With Gravenberch’s performances over the last year attracting interest, Liverpool are keen to tie the Dutchman down for the long term.

When asked about his future prior to playing against Madrid, Gravenberch said: “Obviously I’m happy here, we have to see. We haven’t talked yet [about a new contract], but we will see.”

The question came following speculation stemming from reporter Fabrizio Romano’s claims that Liverpool are getting ready for talks over a contract extension.

“What I can tell you is that Liverpool are preparing discussions with his agent over a new contract,” Romano said on his Here We Go podcast.

“It is not something that is advanced at this stage, so Liverpool have not already prepared a contract agreement with Gravenberch.”

There is currently no suggestion that Gravenberch is keen to leave, and with a contract that lasts until 2028, the cards are in Liverpool’s hands.

As a key man in the Liverpool midfield and the only real long-term No. 6 option at the club, the Reds will be keen to get the ball rolling as he heads into his final two-and-a-half years.

Romano also said that a new deal for Dominik Szoboszlai is in the frame, adding: “Szoboszlai is out of contract in 2028 and Liverpool are also thinking about the possibility to discuss [a new contract] with his agents.

“So Liverpool want to reward the player and discuss a new deal, so I think this could be another topic for the next months.”

The midfield refresh of 2023 has so far proved successful, but Liverpool must act now to avoid needing another overhaul in 2028.
