Leeds United boss Daniel Farke loves a hostile football ground
The former Leeds United striker has been without a club since leaving Elland Road in the summer.
Former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is reportedly in talks with Sheffield United - a move that would see him link up the subject of an X-rated post-promotion chant.
Bamford has been without a club since leaving Leeds in the summer, having mutually agreed to cut his contract 12 months short after it became clear he was not in manager Daniel Farke’s plans. The 32-year-old was linked with a move to Spanish outfit Getafe and spent time training with Coventry City last month but is yet to find a new home.
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath now reports via X that Bamford is in talks over a move to Sheffield United, according to sources at Bramall Lane. The Blades have endured a terrible start to the 2025/26 campaign with three wins from 15 games leaving them in the relegation zone.
Chris Wilder was sacked after narrowly missing out on promotion last season but returned in September, with his replacement Ruben Selles losing all five of his league games before being dismissed. The Blades have improved slightly but remain in the bottom three alongside Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Wilder has bemoaned his side’s lack of a proper No.9 in recent weeks and no one has scored fewer than Sheffield United’s 11 goals. It appears they may look towards Bamford to provide that focal point upfront, should talks progress into any kind of contract.
Patrick Bamford and Chris Wilder have history
Leeds fans will remember a very recent run-in between Bamford and the man who could end up being his new manager towards the end of last season. The experienced striker gathered with his teammates to celebrate with fans at Elland Road after automatic promotion was confirmed in April and was filmed starting a chant that labelled Wilder a ‘w*****’.

Wilder had previously singled out the striker and former Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw when labelling Leeds ‘muppets’, following Sheffield United’s automatic promotion triumph in the 2018/19 campaign. And the Blades boss took Bamford’s starting of the chant in good faith.
“I'm a big boy, you give it you take it,” he said. “You give it out locally, you take it locally as I've always done. We have our moments, other teams have their moments. I had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I've no issue at all with it. I'm not sure about the words from a fellow pro, but I appreciate and respected him giving me a call and we had 20 minutes. I spoke to Daniel [Farke] as well and had a half-hour chat with him. He's a top guy.
“When I was playing, we used to give it and take it and it's part and parcel of the game, even on a Sunday morning,” he said. “It's part of the interesting bit of the game. Local rivalries, rivalries between teams and everything that goes with it. So I have no issue. You have to take it and get on with it and I'm absolutely cool with it, and I said that to Pat.”
