The Dallas Mavericks are in a state of change. Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont made the decision to fire GM Nico Harrison after the poor start that Dallas has gotten off to. A large reason why Harrison was fired is the Anthony Davis trade.

Davis was the centerpiece of the Luka Doncic trade. Davis has largely been injured in the nine months he’s been in Dallas. Meanwhile, the Lakes have thrived with Doncic running the team, becoming the new face of the franchise. Davis is currently hurt again, dealing with a calf issue.

With Davis as their most valuable asset, Dumont has apparently become involved in Davis’ injury saga, trying to influence whether or not Davis is ready to play basketball while he recovers from his calf strain.

Mavericks Owner Is Getting Involved in Anthony Davis’ Injury

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Dumont has started getting involved in making decisions about Davis’ availability. MacMahon was on NBA Today while talking about Davis’ calf injury before a game against the Bucks, in which Davis ultimately did not play.

“Patrick Dumont got involved on the decision-making here before Saturday night. He was on the side of let’s err on the side of caution. I’m not saying that he made the decision but the fact that the owner felt the need to become involved that is a significant development in it of itself.”

It seems that Dumont wants to protect Davis at all costs from suffering a more serious injury. Now that the Mavericks have Cooper Flagg on the roster, they will try to build around a core of Davis, Flagg, and Kyrie Irving. Keeping Davis healthy is their top priority.

MacMahon also talked about the vibe around the Dallas Mavericks right before Harrison got fired.

“The Mavericks players felt like they were at a home disadvantage. “These people don’t want us to win,” one player said. And he’s right. That’s how badly they wanted Nico Harrison to be fired.”

Anthony Davis is Listed Questionable Again

Ahead of a game against the Suns, Davis is listed as questionable with that calf strain. The Mavericks are going to be careful with that calf, as he has had Achilles soreness. They do not want him to suffer a season-ending injury.

Dumont will likely be less involved in Davis’ day-to-day health once they find a new GM to take over the basketball operations. Dumont had clearly lost trust in what Harrison was doing, so he made the decision to fire him before Davis was put in a position to seriously hurt himself.

A search for a new GM is already underway.
