Brutal honesty from Jesse Marsch as he speaks out on Leeds United fans

Jesse Marsch Leeds United

With how this season is going at Leeds United, it would be no surprise if Daniel Farke suffers the same fate as Jesse Marsch three years ago when the American was sacked at Elland Road. The German is set to be in charge when the international break resumes in over a week.

But the Leeds boss is not out of the pressure cooker yet; it is believed that he has been given the next four games to save his job. In that stretch, the Whites take on Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Realistically, Farke’s best chance of getting points was against Nottingham Forest, but his team selection and game plan completely backfired and Leeds were beaten 3-1. That was the first of five games Farke has to save his job according to the Daily Mail.

It is reported that the 49ers do not want to repeat what happened with Jesse Marsch in the past; they let him stay in charge too long and by the time he was sacked, it was too late to rescue the season and Leeds were later relegated. Daniel Farke should hope he can turn things around in the next couple of games to avoid been given the boot.

There was a bit of a surprise when the club chiefs decided on replacing Marcelo Bielsa with Marsch in 2022. Many felt it was premature and that Bielsa could have rescued the season with more time. But the American picked up 17 points in the last two months of the season to guarantee safety in his first season.

He was backed in the transfer market in the summer, with Leeds aiming to remain in the top flight for another year. Unfortunately, the American lasted 25 games into the new season before he was sacked. A run of two points in six games was enough for the board to make the final call. Marsch has gone on to become head coach of the Canadian National team where he is having some success.

The former Leeds boss has recently spoken on his time at Elland Road, praising the fanbase and the atmosphere they created in home games:

“I was the coach at Leeds United, Elland Road is an incredible place to play and [the fans] make it very, very difficult [for opposing teams].” Marsch said speaking to TSN.

“Elland Road was incredible,” he added. “It makes life very hard for opponents.”

Marsch is right about Elland Road

It is clear from the American’s words that he still has a soft spot for Leeds United. His time at the club was mixed, with some fans in favour of him while others were not convinced by his style. But after saving the Whites from relegation, and the investment that went into the team, he should have done much better the following season. Unfortunately, things did not go his way and he was sacked.

On Elland Road, his comments are spot on – Leeds have managed t0 make their home a fortress no matter which league they play in. Last season, it was where Farke won more than 50% of his total points in the promotion campaign. This season has seen the club record huge results against Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham and Newcastle at home. They will need to count on their home form a lot more if they want to survive in the Premier League this year, starting against Aston Villa a week on Sunday.
