The New York Giants decided to demote Russell Wilson to third string quarterback. This decision was made by interim head coach Mike Kafka.

With Wilson being demoted to third string, Jameis Winston is now the backup quarterback. Winston would be starting on Sunday if Jaxson Dart is still in concussion protocol. This was the right move. The Giants could not afford Wilson to start again. He has not been good at all and had to replace Dart on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
New York Giants Fans Believe Russell Wilson Is Washed After Being Demoted

This is the second time this season that Wilson has been demoted. He was the starter for the beginning of the season but then was benched for Dart. Now, Wilson is not even the backup quarterback for the Giants. This is what some New York fans had to say about Wilson being demoted once again this season on Twitter:
The Giants had to start Jameis because Russell Wilson is unfortunately washed and Jameis is under contract next year, and Russ is not.

It’s safe to say the Russell Wilson experiment is over. It feels like the last 3 teams he was with as if he never really connected with the coaching staff. Something was up. I wonder if maybe by going to Seattle and Pete Carroll that he just got really lucky that they saw eye to…

Russell Wilson was supposed to be serviceable until Dart was ready and then he got extremely old and slow.

Better option than Russell Wilson https://t.co/UhgApDfPTL

This season, Wilson has only completed 58.0% of his passes for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. He is 36 years old. With this being a one-year deal on the Giants, is there a chance that he could retire after this season? That is something that Wilson and his family will have to decide once the 2025 NFL season ends.
