Town star Walle Egeli on 'best player in the world' Haaland and World Cup dream

Both men now play in English football, but they are yet to cross paths since Walle Egeli completed his move from FC Nordsjaelland to Town for a Championship record fee of £17.5m.

That being said, they have played together at international level - albeit briefly - and Walle Egeli is keen to take as much as he possibly can from the two-time Premier League winner, who has scored 99 goals in 108 top-flight games.

"He's probably the best player in the world right now," he admitted. "It's massive for Norway to have him in the team.

"We're quite different players, but his positioning in the box is very good.

"He always seems to get the easy goals. That's something I can take and learn from, to get the tap-ins and be at the right spot where the ball falls down.

"There are 100 more things I can learn from him. I'd say that's the main one."

Like Haaland, Walle Egeli has been breaking goalscoring records for Norway's youth levels, leading to his first senior cap in 2024.

"That was massive," he explained.

"Hopefully I can make some more appearances for the first team. For now, I'm with the U21s.

"There's a lot of competition for a place in the first team, but I know if I keep pushing, playing good minutes and playing well, I'm probably right up there."

There's a clear target in his mind - next summer's World Cup in North America.

Norway are on the brink of qualifying, sitting top of their group with six wins from six, having bagged 26 goals and conceded just three. They do, however, boast a star-studded attack, making it difficult for a new face to break in.

But Walle Egeli remains confident, believing that a strong campaign of regular Championship minutes will put him in a good place to feature on the biggest stage in a few months' time.

"For sure, I've always said it, that's my main goal," he revealed.

"I said it probably 10 years ago, the World Cup in 2026, I want to be there.

"I think I'm close to it, but I need to push and do even more than I'm doing now."
