Brain Daboll praised both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston just a few days ago before he was fired and Winston was promoted to QB2 behind Jaxson Dart.

Daboll was not the one to make the quarterback switch, after the New York Giants front office made the decision to fire the head coach after their eighth loss of the season. Daboll had been under pressure heading into the season, hoping that the emergence of Dart could keep him in the role moving forward.

But moving to 2-8 has seen Daboll's fired with a 20-40-1 record by Giants owner John Mara. General manager Joe Schoen remains in his role for now, with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka elevate to interim head coach. In his first move, Kafka relegated Wilson to QB3, with Winston taking over the back-up spot and being set to play this weekend.

Daboll had been a part of the decision to bench Wilson for Dart, after he had been the one to make the call to start the former heading into the season. Even after benching Wilson, and leaving Winston as a third-string quarterback, he had been a believer in both of the veterans.

Speaking about both Wilson and Winston a week ago, Daboll said: "They're backup quarterbacks that have had a lot of experience, that provide a lot of value when you're in the meeting room.

"They stay late with Jaxson, watch tape together, all three of them. Give good input. I think they're a good resource for a young quarterback."

Now though, Winston will be in as the starter after Wilson became QB3, with Dart likely to be sidelined with a concussion while currently in the protocol.

Winston being a third-string quarterback had always been harsh, proving to be a player capable of winning games as a back-up and even impressing when being a starter - struggling with consistencies.

But Winston had no ill-will towards the Giants for assigning him to the role, stating he was happy to act as a mentor Dart.

Dart has had two long-time starters behind him in Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson

He told reporters: "That never was mentioned to me, but I'm doing whatever is required from any organization that has me on their roster.

"I would love to help the young buck turn into the superstar that he is. That's God-given. I would love to assist in any way. But my dream is to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in the NFL.

"In New York, that would be iconic and legendary. Whatever that takes, I'm going to do that."

The Giants face the Green Bay Packers in Week 11 with Winston the likely starter.
