Everton could potentially have to pay Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney around £1million in wages to pull off a deal in the winter transfer window.
The 29-year-old earns £500,000 a week, including add-ons and performance bonuses, in Jeddah, and to achieve a similar take-home pay, the Toffees may need to shell out a significant pre-tax sum.
David Moyes has been a long-time admirer of Toney, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the centre-forward wanting a return to English football in January to boost his chances of making the plane to the 2026 World Cup.
Thierno Barry has failed to live up to expectations at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Beto has failed to be a reliable outlet up front, making the addition of a new number nine an undoubted priority in L4.

Ivan Toney transfer in January unlikely at Everton
It doesn’t look like Toney will move to the Premier League in January unless he’s willing to take a substantial pay cut, according to the Daily Mail.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
The news outlet reports on 12 November that, while the likes of the Blues, Tottenham and West Ham United have enquired about the England international’s availability, a deal in the winter transfer window is complicated by tax penalties.
However, it’s been claimed that a move back to the English top flight next summer is much more “plausible” for Toney amid interest from the Merseyside outfit.
It would make sense for Moyes to shelve his plans to sign the striker at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the time being, with Al-Ahli also wanting a fee for the centre-forward, who has two years remaining on his contract.
The Friedkin Group can show their ambition by signing Toney, but the funds used on him could potentially be used to strengthen multiple positions in the team.
While a new number nine should be a priority for the Toffees, defence is another area that needs to be addressed in L4.
David Moyes has realistic striker candidate at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Beto’s unreliability in front of goal has hurt Moyes this season, with the Blues scoring just 12 goals in 11 Premier League matches.
Everton sit 13th going into the November international break, but at the start of the campaign, many fans expected them to be competing for a European spot in the league table.

Ndiaye’s Premier League record this season
The Merseyside outfit’s leading goalscorer right now is Iliman Ndiaye, who has thrived despite switching to the right-wing after Jack Grealish’s arrival.
With the Senegal international, the Toffees’ leading goalscorer with four goals in the Premier League, it would undoubtedly be realistic to try him out in the number nine position and see whether he can do better than Barry and Beto.
