FORMER Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is in talks to join Championship strugglers Sheffield United on a short-term basis until January.

The ex-Middlesbrough forward left Leeds by mutual consent in late summer.

Bamford, 32, scored 60 goals in 205 appearances after joining from Boro for £7m in 2018.

He was involved in two promotion-winning campaigns for Leeds and scored 17 goals during the club's first stint back in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa in 2020 and later went onto represent England.

Patrick Bamford has been without a club since leaving Leeds United in the summer.

But his final few years at the club were ravaged by injury, with manager Daniel Farke informing him he was not part of his plans if he remained at the club, where he had been contracted until next summer.

During Sheffield United’s promotion season under Wilder during his first spell in charge in 2018-19, there had been tension in the run-in between Leeds and the Blades, including some comments made by Bamford.

Following the Blades’ promotion and Leeds missing out, Wilder made some caustic comments in the direction of Whites players, including Bamford.

The Yorkshire duo were again in the mix for automatic promotion from the second tier last season and this time, it was Leeds who prevailed, with Bamford pictured on social media at Elland Road's post-promotion party leading a derogatory chant about Wilder.

Wilder later revealed that he has spoken to both Bamford and Daniel Farke on the telephone and said that he had ‘no issue’ with the celebrations.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield in late spring, Wilder said: "Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I've no issue at all with it. I'm not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

"We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel (Farke) as well yesterday and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a top guy.”
