Liverpool Get Chance To Sign £35m Marc Guehi Alternative Amid Rival Bayern Interest

Liverpool have been handed a chance to sign a Bundesliga defender who could be an alternative to Marc Guehi.

The Reds are in desperate need of a new centre-back, as Arne Slot‘s side has shown defensive vulnerability all season long. It was most evident in their most recent match, which was a 3-0 defeat to Man City, which left them eighth in the Premier League, and six points away from league leaders Arsenal.

If Liverpool is to defend their Premier League title, they will need to make improvements in the January transfer window, and had been linked to signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The England international almost joined the Reds in the summer, but a move broke down, and they are expected to go in for him again in January.

However, Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in Guehi, and it has been said that the defender could opt to move to the Bundesliga to join the German champions instead of moving to Anfield. If that is the case, then Liverpool will need to find an alternative to sign in January.

Liverpool could sign Borussia Dortmund star

Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract is due to expire at Signal Iduna Park in June 2027, meaning that come the summer, he will have just one year left on his deal. It was always the assumption at Dortmund that the German internatioanl would sign a new deal, but according to the media in Germany, that may not be the case.

German outlet Bild are reporting that Schlotterbeck is unhappy at Dortmund, and reluctant to sign a new contract as he wants to win trophies, and isn’t happy with the style of football that the team are playing under manager Niko Kovac.

The same report says that Bayern Munich are keen on the 25-year-old, but, if Vincent Kompany’s side sign Guehi, then Liverpool could go after Schlotterbeck. It has been reported that the Reds have been interested in the defender before, and he would be the ideal alternative to Guehi.

Schlotterbeck has an estimated market value of £35m, and can play as both a full-back or a centre-back, which would be ideal for Arne Slot’s desperate need of defensive help. He has made 10 appearances so far this season for Dortmund, and could be a player to watch out for at Liverpool in the January window.
