Alexander Isak has endured a poor start to life at Liverpool since leaving Newcastle United.
Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison believes Alexander Isak only has himself to blame for his sluggish start to life at Anfield.
The Swede has just one Carabao Cup goal to show from eight games following his British transfer move. Newcastle United have endured a tough start to the Premier League campaign but one area of solace for supporters has been Isak’s demise.
He was an unused substitute as Liverpool were battered 3-0 by Manchester City at the weekend. A groin injury suffered against Eintracht Frankfurt has now kept Isak out of action for five games.
Former Liverpool man speaks out
Writing on X, ex-Liverpool player Hutchison blamed Isak for his own struggles. He posted: “Totally his own fault. He should have been professional, done his pre-season properly with Newcastle.
“It was only ever gonna be one of two outcomes. He goes to Liverpool and is fit, ready to play! He stays at Newcastle and is ready to play.”
‘How fit are you?’ - Jamie O’Hara
Speaking to Sky Sports, ex-Tottenham Hotspur player O’Hara criticised Isak’s professionalism for arriving on Merseyside half fit. He said: “It’s (his injury) not a blessing in disguise, you don’t want your star man getting injured and picking up knocks. He’s not been playing great or having an effect on the game but you want to get him fit.
“Obviously it’s disappointing, the first time they play him twice in a week, he gets a knock. My argument to this is ‘What has Alexander Isak been doing?’ What’s he doing? He was in limbo but, come on, keep yourself fit. You know you’re going to move.
“They’ve tried to wrap him up in cotton wool and drip-feed him into the team. He’s a professional athlete. I know you didn’t want to be involved at Newcastle but keep yourself fit. How unfit are you?”

‘Strike changed relationship’ - Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe admitted following the transfer saga that Isak going on strike soured their relationship. He told reporters: "Alex and I always enjoyed a great relationship. I loved working with him. I hope he enjoyed working with us.
"It was mutually beneficial. We helped him become the player he in part is today and he helped us as a team achieve some unbelievable milestones and was part of a very successful team.
"The moment he went on strike our relationship did change and that was probably a turning point in our relationship."
