Aaron Rodgers goes against own head coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a strong start to the season, but have really struggled as of late, going 1-3 over their last four games. The Steelers’ last game, a Sunday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, saw Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers have arguably the worst performance of his surefire Hall of Fame career.

However, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin refrained from saying that his quarterback had an off night.

“Sunday night was what it was,” Tomlin said, [according to ESPN.](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46930578/mike-tomlin-no-long-term-concerns-aaron-rodgers-play) “But I have no long-term reservations about his ability to play the position and play the position at a high level for us.”

“I’m not going to chalk it up to an off night, but there are no long-term concerns,” the coach said of his quarterback’s evening, which saw him take three sacks and barely complete 50% of his passes.

However, Rodgers is directly contradicting Tomlin in his own assessment of Sunday’s performance, saying that it was, in fact, an off night.

“A lot of stuff wasn’t working,” Rodgers said Sunday. “We were bad on third down. I was just a little bit off. … I missed, obviously, some throws, for sure. And then we weren’t getting guys open and just put it all together times the guys were open. I missed some throws I usually make.”

It’ll be interesting to see where the Steelers go from here.
