A familiar foe to the Detroit Lions will not be in the Philadelphia Eagles’ lineup at Lincoln Financial Field when both teams square off for their Week 11 matchup.
Per the NFL Network, veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander is stepping away from football to focus on “getting right physically and mentally.” As a result, the Eagles placed him on the reserve/retired list and activated cornerback Jakorian Bennett from injured reserve.
Alexander, who did not travel with the Eagles to Green Bay for Monday Night Football against the Packers, informed the franchise of his decision to step away on Sunday. His decision also comes just 10 days after the Eagles acquired him — along with a 2027 seventh-round pick — from the Baltimore Ravens before this year’s NFL trade deadline, in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Before landing with the Ravens and Eagles, Alexander spent the first seven years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him 18th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. With the Packers, he became a two-time All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler.
Last season in Green Bay, Alexander suffered a knee injury in Week 11 that kept him out for the remainder of the season, necessitating arthroscopic knee surgery in January.
In June, the Packers released Alexander, paving the way for him to sign with the Ravens several days later. He played two games with Baltimore (Weeks 1 and 5) before being traded to Philadelphia.
Dating back to 2019, Alexander has played seven games against the Lions, logging 19 tackles and one interception.
While his short stint in Baltimore didn’t resemble his Pro Bowl days in Green Bay, the Eagles could still have benefited from the voice and experience Alexander brought from facing the Lions twice a year during his time with the Packers.
