Newcastle United defender Malick Thiaw insists Magpies team-mate Nick Woltemade's 'qualities are undisputed' as he praised his start to life in the Premier League.
Woltemade, as well as Thiaw, joined Newcastle in the summer transfer window as he become the club's record signing after he left Stuttgart for a £69million fee. But the 23-year-old forward has made a positive start to life on Tyneside, scoring six goals in all competitions for the Magpies.
Woltemade received some criticism in some quarters of the German media last month before he scored his first goal for the Germany national team in a win against Northern Ireland. He has also faced jibes from Bayern Munich officials after the Bavarian outfit failed to stump up the money to sign him from their Bundesliga rivals.
But Thiaw was always confident he had the ability to shine in English football. "Nick's qualities are undisputed," Thiaw told Sky Sports Deutschland.
"Everyone is aware of that. I already knew Nick before, so I was aware of what he brings to the table and that he could definitely make it in England. The fact that he then got off to such a perfect start was perfect. He's doing very well."
Thiaw joined Newcastle from AC Milan in a £34.6million deal in the summer and he has revealed Woltemade has played a big role in helping him settle into life in England
"I think he'd say the same, but he's really helped me," Thiaw added, after his performances at Newcastle earned him a Germany recall.
"It's always different when you share that comfort zone with another German. Someone you can always speak German with and whose interests you share.
"He's become a very good friend of mine. I'm very happy he's here and he's a great asset to the team."
