Liverpool are considering several new recruits ahead of the January transfer window

Despite wasting no time signing Jeremie Frimpong over the summer, Liverpool are back on the market for a new right-back.

The Reds made the Netherlands international their first signing of the window, immediately replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was announced on May 30th that Real Madrid had signed the 27-year-old early, paying a small fee to release him from his Liverpool contract early.

Alexander-Arnold’s departure had been imminent for months, and the Reds signed Frimpong that same day.

However, Frimpong has struggled with his fitness since arriving at Anfield and is currently on the sidelines with his second injury spell of the season.

Liverpool ‘considering’ signing new right-back in January

Concerns have been raised over Liverpool’s defence this season. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten games in all competitions and have shipped 17 goals in that time, including three 3-0 defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Arne Slot currently has Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni out injured, leaving just six fit senior defenders to rotate across match days.

According to Sabah, Liverpool are among a number of clubs ‘considering’ Wilfried Singo of Galatasaray as a potential target in the new year. The report claims they join Manchester United and Arsenal as candidates who will be ‘knocking on his door’ during the January window.

Singo only signed for the Turkish giants over the summer and he is already being linked with another transfer. The 24-year-old has impressed the Premier League clubs following his performance against Ajax in the Champions League last week.

Singo signed for Galatasaray from Monaco in the summer for a reported €30.7 million (£27m) fee, and he now has a €60 million (£53m) release clause in place. The Côte d'Ivoire international is expected to be the subject of mid-season offers, once the winter window opens for business.

Singo has also come up against Liverpool already this season. He played the full 90 minutes when the Reds lost 1-0 at Rams Park in the Champions League. According to Sofascore, he earned a 7.2 rating for his performance, contributing two tackles, two interceptions, four clearances and a block.

How long is Jeremie Frimpong out for Liverpool?

Frimpong has been out of action for Liverpool since the Eintracht Frankfurt game and while Slot is expecting him back after the international break, he does not envisage him being fit to face Nottingham Forest.

The Reds will take on the East Midlands side at Anfield on November 22nd.

“Alisson for sure [after the break], and I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November until March! But I don't expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson, we expect this,” Slot said following their latest defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League.

Frimpong was previously out for two Premier League games with a hamstring problem at the start of the season, now, a similar issue has set him back once again. Conor Bradley has been starting in Frimpong’s absence, but as Liverpool have already relied on makeshift right-back Dominik Szoboszlai this season, they are now considering signing a new natural option.
