Steelers promote rookie quarterback after Aaron Rodgers struggles

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of mediocrity for years. Last season, Pittsburgh looked to veteran quarterback and former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson to turn the franchise back into a title contender, and while he got off to a hot start, the Steelers collapsed over the second half of the season.

This year, the Steelers are rolling with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers as their signal caller. Unfortunately, this season seems to be following the same arc as last year’s. After an impressive 4-1 start to the year, Pittsburgh has gone 1-3 to find itself at 5-4.

The Steelers’ last game, a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, was one of the worst performances of his career, and it appears that the coaching staff took notice.

Pittsburgh has made the decision to move rookie quarterback Will Howard to the active roster to aid in his development, as it becomes more clear that Rodgers likely isn’t the quarterback of the future.

“We have activated QB Will Howard to the Active Roster from the Reserve/Injured List,” the team reported from its official Twitter account.

We have activated QB Will Howard to the Active Roster from the Reserve/Injured List, signed CB Asante Samuel Jr. to the Practice Squad, waived RB Trey Sermon from the Active Roster & released DB Darrick Forrest from the Practice Squad. @BordasLawhttps://t.co/1Fxb4XYDnB

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Dear god now people are gonna be begging for him to start,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Now these are moves I can get behind. Offense needs a mobile QB to allow these receivers time to get open. ASJ is way better than slay. Love it,” oen fan added.

“Now start Howard and see what you have!” someone else demanded.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers start Howard if Rodgers continues to struggle.
