Ex-Leeds United star Patrick Bamford has opened talks with Championship side Sheffield United over a short-term deal, according to reports.

The 32-year-old departed Elland Road back in August, after seven seasons, during which he scored 60 goals in 205 appearances and helped the Whites to win the EFL Championship title twice.

He has been without a club since, but BBC Radio Sheffield says that the relegation-threatened Blades are seeking to sign Bamford, who has one cap for England, on a deal until January.

Chris Wilder's team are in dire straits, having lost 11 of their opening 15 matches, while scoring just 11 goals, and will be hopeful that the former Leeds man can provide them with some much-needed firepower in front of goal.

Bamford has recently been training with Championship table-toppers Coventry City, but any suggestion that the Sky Blues were planning to sign him was rebuffed by Frank Lampard, who explained that he was merely allowing the former Chelsea youngster to maintain his fitness whilst looking for a new club.

Leeds United have slashed 30% off select kits and merch on their official club store, including this season's home shirt.

That club now looks to be Sheffield United, but the prospective move does not come without some controversy. Last season, the Blades went head-to-head with Leeds for the Championship title, and after they were edged out of the automatic promotion places by both the Whites and Burnley, Bamford was filmed orchestrating fans in a disrespectful chant aimed at Sheffield United boss Wilder after Leeds clinched their return to the top-flight.

However, Wilder later spoke to Bamford on the phone about the matter which appeared to have been put to rest there and then.

Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield at the time: "Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I've no issue at all with it. I'm not sure about the words used from a fellow pro, but I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

"We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel [Farke] as well yesterday and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a top guy.

"They are a top team and a top football club and like I said I'm a big boy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that's part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning.

"I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat."
