A lot of people credit the offensive schemes of the Houston Texans for their comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the defense deserves a ton of credit, too. And it was a couple of defensive stars who are receiving praise for their hard work and relentless attacking.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans gave a special shout-out to both Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. for their remarkable defense. Together, they combined for 4.5 sacks on Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, making the 19-point fourth-quarter comeback possible.
“Will and Danielle, they’re definitely a scary force on the edge and two of the best edge rushers in the league. We’re blessed to have both of those guys as rushers on our team,” Ryans said.
This was a pair that Jacksonville just couldn’t get away from. Anderson enjoyed his fourth consecutive game featuring him tackling a QB, while Hunter created eight pressures on the Jaguars’ quarterback and tied a career-high 3.5 sacks.
It looked like the Texans were going to have a 3-6 record, but they stormed back in a memorable and balanced fashion, allowing both the offense and defense to shine. If they are able to pull out another win, this time against the 1-8 Tennessee Titans, they will be back at .500.
Their road to the playoffs isn’t guaranteed, and it’ll require consistency across the board. But this win, made possible by the heroics of Hunter and Anderson, makes it feel like anything is possible right now.
The next few games will be crucial for the Texans. If they can take down the Titans and then rack up a couple more wins, the playoffs could be in their grasp.
